Make your own Magical Santa Key
When we moved into our house two years ago, my son was concerned that we didn’t have a chimney. How would Santa get in the house? We needed a Magical Santa Key:
What’s a magical Santa key?
Well, it’s a large key made from metallic shimmer cardboard (with a key-chain made from red and white pipe cleaners), that only Santa can use. When he comes to our house, his magic turns the key into a front door key and he can open the front door to deliver the presents.
No one else can use the key, so you don’t have to worry about someone sneaking into your house on Christmas eve. Just to be sure, we put a Santa-Use Only label on the key – I don’t want to get woken up in the middle of the night but some random elf trying to unlock the door!
It’s now become a family tradition to hang the key on the front door before the kids go to bed on Christmas Eve. I sometimes think about making a more “perfect” cardboard key, but I like that my son helped make it when he was 3 years old. It adds to the charm and magic!
Disclaimer: To be accurate, we do have a chimney, but the fireplace has been blocked off – we haven’t had any problems the last few years with Santa getting in, so he must realise that chimney is out of use!
Genius! We have certainly had lots of discussions at our place about how Santa gets in and had to reassure that there wouldn’t be any doors left unlocked or anything that might let someone else in. I wish I’d thought of this at the start!
