Getting Sassy Again!

Way back in December, I made my first Sassy Librarian Blouse and mentioned that I had the fabric picked out for my second one. Surprise, surprise, it’s taken the motivation of the Spring Top Sew-Along at Made By Rae to actually get it sewn!

The fabric is a soft and silky voile, which I’ve never sewn with before. It’s Diamond Mine in the Little Folks range by Anna Maria Horner. I’ve had it in my stash for a LONG time. (Side note: I should do more selfish sewing!).

Since it was a long time between blouses, I had to watch some of the Craftsy videos again (gotta love access for life!). It was good to get all the tips and tricks, but also took longer than just following a pattern. I tried to multi-task and listen to the next step while finishing the previous one.

This time around, I did the pin-tuck variation with no collar. I didn’t go with the bow and tab for a simpler design and kept the sleeves. I struggled to decide which buttons to use from my stash (as seen on Facebook and Instagram!). I wasn’t sure, but took the daring option to go with bright pink fabric-covered buttons that match the pink in the fabric. I thought I could change the buttons later if they were too over-the-top, but it turned out that I love them! It makes a prim and proper blouse that little bit more fun and young.

I made the same modification to the pattern as last time, extending the release pleats at the front to give a bit more shape at my true waist.

Now I have two Sassy Blouses that I love. Fancier than my usual knit tops, they look great with jeans or a nice skirt. I’m feeling a bit more stylish than my “Mum uniform”!

The Sassy Librarian Blouse with full pattern and video lessons is available on Craftsy.

What fabric would you make it in?

Thanks Chris! I’m loving the shorter hair. I feel like it suits me much better.

I love this Narelle – just discovered it through browsing the projects attached to the class.

Can I ask what size you made and what size you wear normally? my measurements of deceptive die to just having had a baby and converting the us sizes to australian doesn’t seem to work for me either lol

I made a size 10, going on my waist measurement. There’s still an inch or so of ease, so it’s a forgiving fit – good for post-baby. I’m usually a size 10 (in “designer” clothes) or 12 in Target etc-type clothes in Australia.
