Mother’s Day Presents – Buttercup Bags

For Mother’s Day this year, I decided it was time to make something for my Mother and Mother-in-Law. This lead to the dilemma of what to make (of course!). Right on cue, I spotted the Buttercup Bag from Made by Rae in my list of projects to try. Off I went to my local fabric store (which I actually dislike, so I’m not going to mention names), and searched through the quilting material until I found something I thought my two Mothers would like. My Mum is definitely an autumn-colours person, so this is what I made for her:

The lining is a matching plain brown quilting fabric.

My Mother-in-Law tends to like bolder colours, so here is what I thought she would like:

It is lined with a matching plain turquoise quilting material.

The pattern was really easy to follow, although I stuffed up the curves on the button feature, so didn’t put it on. I thought the bags still needed some embellishment, so I found a couple of buttons to dress them up a bit:

I also put interfacing on the top section and strap for the brown one to help it hold its shape.

I’m happy with the end results. Hopefully, my two Mums will agree! What projects have you made as gifts for your Mother/Mother-in-Law? (I’d love some ideas for next year!)
