Hand-painted Geometric Coasters

I’m not much of a decorator, but I’m slowly creating the lounge room of my dreams. I started with the geometric “Art by an Engineer”, and I always wanted to create a few more items to match.

Last week, I shared my crochet ripple blanket, for snuggling on my couch in winter. This week, I’ve got another fun project for my lounge room – hand-painted geometric coasters.

I don’t have a full tutorial. They were simple enough to make. I started with some old cork coasters that a friend gave me when I first moved out of home. I have no idea why she gave me coasters with cartoon spiders on them, but I could never throw them out. When the top started to peel, that was a sign to add my own touch to them. I peeled the picture off, and painted them with acrylic paint.

When I finally got around to the painting, it was a spur of the moment decision. I didn’t have any painters tape to create nice smooth lines, so I just used a piece of paper to create the edges.

When the paint had dried, I added a coat of Mod Podge to seal them. It was fun to make a quick project for a change, and they’re perfect for an impromptu tea party!

And my lounge room looks slightly more coordinated and decorated with my hand-painted geometric coasters.
