Oh Christmas Tee

After making the Christmas Shirr Dress, I thought I’d better make something for Jacob for Christmas too. My first thought was to make a nice collared shirt for him, but he doesn’t wear shirts too often and none of the fabrics in my stash inspired me. Since green is his favourite colour, I then got the idea for a Christmas tree T-shirt:

I didn’t decorate it or make it obviously Christmas-y, since I wanted him to get a bit more wear out of it. He loves the other green T-shirts I’ve made him, so hopefully this will become one of the first picked out of the drawer.

I used a pattern for a raglan T-shirt from Ottobre Design magazine (I’m not sure which one now!). I was originally going to sew the green and white fabric together in the Christmas tree design and then cut out the T-shirt pattern pieces, but I couldn’t get my head around what the proportions should be, so I ended up tracing the pattern onto paper, on the fold. Then I sketched out the Christmas tree and cut the paper into pattern pieces.

Then it was the typical sew the pieces together to make a T-shirt.

I even changed thread colour when hemming it, for an extra finishing touch (or to hide my wiggly stitching)!

But the big question is, does Jacob like it?

Hmmm, I think he does! And one last look at the two Christmas outfits together:

We’re all set for Christmas!

  1. Can I just stop for a second to say how cool it is that you just *made* a t-shirt. Like, oh, whipping up a t-shirt. And then it’s half a Christmas tree on top of it. Supermom!
